TIME MANAGEMENT AND STUDY TIPS

Studying For Exams

For many students, a quiet environment is preferred in order to concentrate better.

  • Plan a workable time-table and stick to it.
  • Decide what needs to be done and do it without compromise.
  • Take a break when you feel saturated with facts.
  • Minimise social interaction that could disrupt your studies and take up a lot of your time.
  • Clarify any doubts that you may have on your understanding of the subjects.
  • Group study sessions may be a powerful morale booster.
  • Try to explain concepts to others to test your understanding of the subject.
  • Memorising facts will not help when application of knowledge is needed.
  • Go through past years' exam questions and take note of the trend in the questions.
  • Don't mug at the last minute.
  • Make short notes while studying

Dealing with the Loss of Freedom during Examination Periods

  • Treat this as a short-term situation.
  • Try not to spend too much time on other activities if you have not been studying since day one.
  • If you have been studying real hard, reward yourself with a treat at the end of the exams

Answering Exam Questions

  • Read the instructions carefully.
  • Spend at least 5 minutes reading and understanding the questions. You may want to jot down points to answer each question selected.
  • Start with questions you feel most confident with.
  • Time yourself - make sure that each question gets sufficient attention and time.
  • Write legibly and tidily

Overcoming Failure

  • Do not panic; try to adopt a more positive mindset.
  • Try again. Chances are that you will do better since you have already gone through the subject once.
  • Evaluate your study habits
